Obviously I have been neglecting this research journal/blog. I would like to say that after teaching 2 weeks of intersession class for around 3.5 hours per day, I took a break from academics. Unfortunately, that is not precisely accurate. I alluded to or maybe even outright mentioned my intention to revise my original dissertation proposal. I have spoken with about half of the committee about this and am in the process of writing a revised proposal document (yes, talking about the dissertation- note picture of ALL of the monsters!!). I have concluded from my review of the requirements that I do not necessarily need to re-do the public proposal - as long as the committee is in agreement with these (substantial) changes from the original. However I do plan to re-do the presentation portion in the name of transparency, scholarship, etc,. and because it will make me feel better to start this off on the right foot. This is more mixed than the prior dissertation - or perhaps, more accurately, it is more quantitative in focus (which explains some of what is going on with QNG). I do think it will be a good and well-received project. So far, there really have not been any monsters - other than the monster of needing to write a new proposal. I am relatively certain that brainy guy above is the 'writing' monster. My goal was to get this finished last week, but I moved pretty slowly and had a couple of other detail things to take care of including work on the rail trail paper (see my project page for some details). I plan to do a lot of work on class prep for my fall classes this week and work in the remainder of the proposal as well.
This is one of two project that I will be working on seriously during fall semester - the other is the examination of the role of arts-based techniques in research instruction (see project page). I have felt a little stagnant so am actually anxious to get going on these.
